Modules

The Inter-university Master in Advanced English Studies and its Applications (iMAES) allows you to organise your studies along two specialist pathways of your choice:

    • English Language and Linguistics: students opting for this pathway complete 49.5 credits offering advanced specialisation in language and linguistics, both theoretical and applied, and 10.5 credits (three courses) in the field of Anglophone literatures and cultures.
  • Anglophone Literatures and Cultures: students opting for this pathway complete 49.5 credits offering advanced specialisation in literature and culture, and 10.5 credits (three courses) in English language and linguistics.

With the exception of the subjetcs ‘Linguistic Models and their Application to English’ and ‘Models of Literary and Cultural Interpretation in English-Speaking Countries’, of 4.5 ECTS each, the rest of the courses (3 ECTS) combine 7 hours distance learning with 14 hours of classroom instruction. In addition, you will have to complete the MA thesis (12 ECTS) and the Practicum unit (6 ECTS); the latter affords students a unique opportunity to carry out external practical work in companies and institutions, as a means of acquiring professional skills and experience. The MA thesis must be thematically linked to the specific specialist pathway which the student has opted to follow; that is to say, if the student has chosen a linguistics pathway, the MA thesis cannot be written on a topic pertaining to literature, and viceversa (See ‘Memoria del Título modificado’ for clarification on this point).

Classes are held at each of the three universities participating in the Degree, so that students can choose the location and schedule that best suit their needs and interests. All courses are taught entirely in English.
