Entry Requirements & Admission Criteria

The Inter-university Master in Advanced English Studies and its Applications (iMAES) is an ideal programme for BA degree holders with an interest in either teaching or research in the fields of English language and linguistics, and Anglophone literatures and cultures. In 2023/2024 the number of places available is as follows:

English language requirements:

Students are required to be proficient in the English language at both oral and written levels (C1 level in the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages).

Entry requirements:

Graduates holding a BA in any area of the Humanities or Social Sciences from any accredited European university or from an international institution of higher education of a similar level can apply for admission. More specifically, in accordance with the terms set out in the Degree Statement, section 4.2, ‘Requisitos de acceso y criterios de admisión‘ (English version available here), the programme is open to graduates holding a BA in:

  • English Language and Literature
  • Modern Languages and Literatures (also including Galician, Basque, Catalan and Spanish)
  • Linguistics
  • Translation and Interpreting
  • Humanities
  • Sociology
Admission criteria:

If there are more applicants than places available at any of the universities participating in the Degree, the candidates will be selected according to the following criteria (Degree Statement, section 4.2):

    • Academic record; weight = 70 percent
    • Curriculum vitae, with special attention to experience relevant to the Degree; weight = 15 percent
  • Letter of interest (written in English); weight = 15 percent
